Because I was planning a natural water birth, there was really no way to know when my labor would begin. However, as soon as I began having contractions, I called Clare and she came to the hospital to begin shooting within the hour. She was in fact on call for us for a whole week beforehand in anticipation of this moment. I know this sounds crazy and intrusive, but she was far from that. She was very discreet, very professional, and as the many grueling hours of labor continued, very upbeat and encouraging, which was not her job to do, but one that she gladly did with a smile and compassion. She captured the reality of giving birth- the ups, the downs, the laughter, the tears, my pain, my husband’s encouragement, the nurses & doctors’ mercy & authority & finally after too long, the overwhelmingly emotional arrival of our 2nd child, our amazing little boy. After snapping a few more photos of us holding our little man, she left us to enjoy our newest arrival. Within a few weeks, she not only had hundreds of perfectly edited black & white (along with some tasteful color) photographs of M’s birth, but she had also put together a slideshow of pictured set to the most perfect song highlighting my labor and birth. It was more than emotional to watch, to say the least. I still watch the short video from time to time and never walk away with a dry eye. I am indebted to her for giving me this most precious gift to relive forever!”
